Butaque is a neo-grotesk (a sans-serif class of typefaces) that draws its lines from the chair—of the same name—designed by Clara Porset, an architect and designer that revolutionized industrial design in Mexico in the mid-20th century. Featuring the same peculiar traits that became her signature, Butaque was designed to accompany the curation and catalogue of the In a Cloud, In a Wall, In a Chair: Six Modernists in Mexico at Midcentury exhibition at the Art Institute of Chicago.
